The highly-anticipated JT pickup is rumored to start production in September of 2018 in the Toledo Ohio plant, after the completion of a full production year of the upcoming redesigned JL wrangler, which is confirmed to launch in September of 2017. The JT pickup is being placed on a separate model line due to its different configuration.

Jeep is rumored to offer both a two-door and four-door model (single and dual cab). This move keeps the model somewhat within Wrangler’s lineup structure, expectation of loyalists and potential customers.

In recent months, online Jeep forums and automotive press sites have been floating a series of spy photos from a potential JT test vehicle. The test vehicle’s panels have been heavily concealed, offering just a general sense of the shape and some styling cues, which haven’t been confirmed by Jeep.

In rumored form, the JT seems to have a longer wheel base, which began raising some concerns of its trail capabilities. Concerns were calmed when unconfirmed discussions began surfacing about a smaller two-door model also in production.

It has also been discussed that the spy photos where of a test vehicle with a longer, current factory bed from another truck and the actual production model would have a bed smaller that the Chevy Colorado, with the purpose of just easier access to gear while on the trail.

Throughout the years, the desire for a pickup has opened the market for companies like AEV (American Expedition Vehicles) to produce conversion kits for current JK four-door Unlimited Wrangler models. The kits allow you to utilize the longer Unlimited wheel base and transform the Wrangler into a pickup.

The move has helped excite the fan base and paved the road for Jeep to produce one-off concept vehicles, showcased at special events. For the most part these concept vehicles have been very well received and have allowed Jeep to confirm that there’s a legitimate market for a pick up, leading the legitimate discussion and planning for the JT Wrangler Pickup.

Whichever direction Jeep choose to take the 2019 JT Wrangler Pickup in it will certainly be welcomed with criticism, excitement, and the final realization of a highly anticipated wish for die-hard loyalist.
