It seems like we’re starting to get a steady stream of sightings and more information surrounding the upcoming 2018 JL Wrangler, but the highly-anticipated 2019 JT Pickup version of the redesigned Wrangler has remained silent, until recently.
Earlier this week our friends at the JL Wrangler Forum reported on the most recent sighting of the upcoming JT Wrangler Pickup. The pickup version of the redesigned Jeep was last seen over nine months ago. During that time, the prototype pickup had a repurposed truck bed borrowed from a Dodge Ram 1500, the transplant was clear due to the size and misalignment with the rear wheels.
This new prototype sports a properly fitted pickup bed, that is proportional with the rest of the truck and properly aligns with the rear wheels. In addition, the prototype JT was a 4-door unlimited crew cab pickup model. This recent appearance offers a great opportunity to recap all the information we have compiled until now.
The latest sighting was a 4-door Unlimited crew cab model, but it has also been reported that the upcoming JT Pickup will be offered in a 2-door single cab model, continuing the debate between 2 and 4-door design benefits.
In addition, the new JT is rumored to come equipped with either the 2.0L “Hurricane” Turbo engine, 3.0L VM Diesel engine or the upgraded 3.6L Pentastar V6 engine with start/stop technology. All the engine options will be paired with either an 8-speed automatic or 6-speed manual transmission.
From the most recent spy photos, the truck bed seems to fit more proportionally with the rest of the Jeep, the bed also seems to maintain the center body line and square stance that the Jeep is known for. Like the AEV Brute model trucks, the JT pickup seems to have a great flat rugged stance that compliments the overall exterior styling, but is also very functional in terms of cargo and off-road capability.
The JT will also sport the same exterior upgrades as the upcoming JL Wrangler, with a slight slant to the windshield and front grill to help improve aerodynamics, a flatter hood and distinct centerline running the length of the body help provide a solid stance. In addition, the heavily camouflaged JT pickup, seems to have a bulge along the sides of the front fenders, which seems to fall in-line with earlier reports of functional side fender vents to help aide engine temperatures.
Exterior styling elements that are still uncertain for the JT pickup involve the top options. The upcoming JL Wranglers are rumored to have three distinct top options, a powered soft top, traditional hard top and possibly a fixed hard top with SkyView motorized roof panels. All the leaked photos of the JT pickup have it equipped with a chopped traditional Wrangler hardtop that has freedom roof panels.
The JT pickup is scheduled to be a 2019 model, following the release of the redesigned 2018 JL Wrangler. If Jeep release patterns remain the same, that would mean that the ordering banks for the JL Wrangler will open in late October of 2017, with deliveries in November.
The JT pickup would follow the same pattern the following year, with ordering banks opening in late August of 2018, followed by production in October and the eventual deliveries in November of 2018.
Although major elements of the upcoming JT pickup Wrangler are still unclear, the anticipation and excitement around the highly anticipated pick up Wrangler will become clearer as time goes on.
