Happy Thanksgiving to all!!!

Every family has particular Thanksgiving traditions, whether it is a certain dish that is a must have every Thanksgiving or a certain activity. For many Jeepers, that includes something with either friends and family on the trails or a club activity.

Outside of hitting the trails or gathering with your off roading club, here are some other common Thanksgiving Day traditions. Feel free to add yours or share what you and your family are doing this Thanksgiving.

Eating Turkey
According to the National Turkey Federation, 95 percent of Americans eat turkey at Thanksgiving.
Watching Football
Thanksgiving Day Parade
Turkey Wishbone
Who hasn’t tried to grab the wishbone to be the lucky one to make a wish?
And most importantly – Give Thanks!!!!

I found this little poem about Thanksgiving Day that I thought was nice and had potential to make a few small revisions to make it just a little more Jeep friendly for the holiday. 🙂 My revisions of course are in BOLD!

Happy Thanksgiving Day to you all!!!

Over the River (Thanksgiving Day)

Over the river and through the woods
To Grandmother’s house we go.
The horse (Jeep) knows the way
To carry the sleigh
Through white and drifted snow.
(To plow through the white and drifted snow.)

Over the river and through the woods
Oh, how the wind does blow!
It stings the toes
And bites the nose,
As over the ground we go. (Should have put the hardtop on!)

Over the river and through the woods
To have a (some Jeep fun) first-rate play.
Hear the (pistons churn) bells ring,
Ting-a-ling-ling! (and the engine hum)
Hurrah for Thanksgiving Day!

Over the river and through the woods,
Trot fast, my dapple gray! (Tread through my able YJ)
Spring (Bound) over the ground
Like a hunting (hungry) hound,
For this is Thanksgiving Day.

Over the river and through the woods,
And straight through the barnyard gate (rocky terrain).
We seem to go
Extremely slow~
It is so hard to wait!

Over the river and through the wood~
Now Grandmother’s cap I spy!
Hurrah for fun!
Is the pudding done?
Hurrah for the pumpkin pie!

  1. I’m part of that 95%. As a matter of fact, I’m still eating turkey. Turkey pie, turkey stew, turkey sandwiches (hot and cold). I hope it’s gone before Christmas! Cute poem with OK revisions, but don’t quit your day job just yet!

  2. Loved the turkey and the houseful of family but I could have done without the football. Missed about an hour of the game by taking a couple of my nephews for an off road thrill ride. They ran back into the house asking their Mom if she could buy a Jeep. I think I might have started something!

  3. It was a very happy Thanksgiving. We got to spend several hours roaming through the woods and river bottoms on my family farm. We had quality time with family and friends and we ate like pigs and slept in every morning. It don’t get no better than that!
