2018 JL Wrangler Aluminum Hood

JK Owner Gets JL Hood Shipped To Him – New Design Revealed

A JK owner got a surprise when his new Wrangler hood came in and didn’t quite fit right; it appears to be a 2018 JL Wrangler hood. Purchased from a recycling yard in the Detroit area, what was supposed to be a 2014 hard rock/10a turned out to be a pre-production JL Wrangler hood.

Differences In JK and JL Hoods

The JLWranglerforums user who ordered the hood was surprised when the new hood was two JL Wrangler Hoodinches longer than the stock hood and featuring two very prominent hood vents. We already new the hood of the new JL Wrangler was going to be longer to accommodate the new 8-speed ZF transmission and this just about confirms it, measuring it at two inches longer than the JK hood.

Similar to our renders of the 2018 JL Wrangler, it appears the 2018 JL Wrangler will feature a more aggressive look with a recessed hood with two angular vents. According to the forum user Redrockjk, the hood he was shipped had no VIN stickers or Mopar stamped part numbers on it, which is common for Wrangler hoods. As we have written about previously, the hood is one of the new aluminum body parts for the 2018 JL Wrangler.

According to the forum user, the recycling yard where he purchased the hood from is located near the Chelsea proving grounds, and the one worker at the recycling yard thinks there “might have been a mix up” with the ordered hood and what was delivered; the recycling center near the proving grounds apparently regularly receives cars from FCA to part out. The hood  came already painted and stickered with the large “RUBICON” lettering.

After The Mix Up Was Discovered

After the mix up was discovered and the forum user contacted the recycling yard, they asked to Aluminum 2018 JL Wrangler Hoodhave the hood back. JLWranglerforums user Redrockjk was told that the hood was going back to FCA, which only adds more credence to the fact this is a 2018 JL Wrangler hood.

  1. Interested in rear bumper and tire holder combo. I bought one for my son’ 2013 keep. Now I want one for my 2015 keep rubicon.
