Along with the key dates schedule, the sleuths at JLWranglerForum have also got a list of confirmed features for the 2018 Wrangler, many of which we have already reported on. These features include the following:
2018 Jeep Wrangler Transmission
As we’ve known for some time, the JL Wrangler is getting a new transmission setup. Jeep is switching to using an 8-speed automatic transmission that will increase the Wrangler’s fuel economy. While the Wrangler is maintaining it’s manual 6-speed despite early rumors that it was getting axed, the addition of an 8-speed automatic should be a pleasant addition to the Wrangler’s already stout drivetrain.
One of the most discussed aspects of the next generation Wrangler has been its new engine options for 2018. The 3.6L Pentastar V6 isn’t going anywhere so there is no need to fret about that, however it will now be joined by a 2.0L turbo 4-cylinder engine dubbed “Hurricane” as well as a 3.0L VM Diesel engine.
For sometime enthusiasts have been begging for a diesel engine and they will finally be getting one. The 2.0L Hurricane engine will be a nice fuel saving addition to the Wrangler line-up, the only question is how will it handle off-road terrain? Hopefully with ease as it is reportedly packing 300 HP, about 15 HP more than the current Pentastar V6.
2018 JL Wrangler Interior & Electronics
One of the more exciting and under-reported features of the new JL Wrangler is that it will incorporate new fourth-gen Uconnect 8.4″ navigation system with Apple Carplay and Android Auto into the cabin. This is a nice refresh for the entertainment/navigation system of the Wrangler, bringing the interior into the 21st century.
2018 Jeep JL Wrangler Top Options
Causing an internet firestorm of comments and some polarizing opinions has been what Jeep is doing with the top of the JL Wrangler. As we reported sometime ago, the JL Wrangler is getting three new top options which includes: a true 3-piece hardtop, a power soft top, and an optional hardtop glass panel roof.
From what we know so far, the true 3-piece hardtop will be able to be removed in sections, allowing you to choose how much of the world you let in. The power soft top is you standard soft top with a motor attached. You will supposedly be able to switch between having a hardtop and soft top.
What are your thoughts on these new features and key production dates? Will you be lining up to order your JL Wrangler with a glass top when the order banks open? Comment your thoughts below!
